For a suburban population of 25,000, Hudson continues to feature compelling dining choices. With its picturesque main street and old town charm, there is something memorable about going out for dinner in Hudson. The most recent addition to the city’s restaurant scene is Rosewood Grill, which is sure to add to the allure of the city’s culinary destinations. Operating in the Turner’s Mill building, and owned by the Hospitality Restaurants management group (the group also owns Salmon Dave's and Blue Point Grille), Rosewood Grill strikes a welcome balance between fine dining and casual comfort.
Food: Rosewood Grill is a restaurant that can be whatever you want it to be. It can be a steak and seafood restaurant with expertly-prepared entrées all reasonably priced and apportioned. It can also be a burger, sandwich and salad joint with enough choices to make even the most fickle eater happy. Then there are small plate appetizers and flat breads that can easily be mixed and matched to make a whole meal.
Everything we tried on our visit was exceptional. To start with, we shared the sushi shot and pan-seared scallop appetizers. The sushi shots ($9) were served in small wonton cups, with raw ahi tuna, wasabi and avocado salsa inside. The order came with five shots, and every bit was savored. The three large scallops ($11) were served on top of a sweet potato purée and topped with healthy chunks of wild mushroom and sweet potato chips. We also shared the daily fish special, which on our visit was a swordfish steak ($20). The pan-seared swordfish was rich and meaty, and came served with steamed broccoli and a side of lobster mac n’ cheese. The mac n’ cheese itself is worthy of a meal, and is luckily available as a side ($7).
Drinks: Rosewood Grill has a full bar that features a meticulously chosen wine and beer list, plus a handful of signature cocktails. Our server highly recommended several of the cocktails, and I tried the Sapphire 11 ($9), while my wife had the Little Black Dress ($9). Both were superb and carefully crafted, and worthy of repeat indulgences.
Décor: The restaurant itself is tasteful, simple, and chic. The restaurant is split into two rooms, a barroom and the dining room. Diners can eat in both, although the noise level in the barroom is probably not conducive to a romantic night out. The main dining room however can be just that, with elegant wood tables and exposed brick walls, making you feel like you’re in a secret society restaurant.
Service: On our visit the service was first rate. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in navigating the menu. The restaurant had only been open a month during our weekday visit and it was bustling with activity, yet the meal was paced perfectly, and all food came out looking and tasting fabulous.
Insider tip: Rosewood Grill does not accept reservations, and others have told me that the wait for a prime time weekend dining time can be more than an hour. However, you can call ahead to the restaurant to put your name on its list, which should help cut down on the wait time.
Bottom line: With exceptional food, generous portions and a unique dining room, the Rosewood Grill is already attracting diners from throughout the region, and should continue to make Hudson a Summit County dining hotspot.
