Given our common-day tendencies to a) abbreviate everything and b) throw in some ad hoc pop culture reference, it's going to be hard to avoid referring to the newly-opened Ohio City Burrito solely by its initials, as in, "You down with OCB?" Thankfully, this one-stop Mexican-American eatery offers more flavor than such a lame joke.

Only having been open for a week, Ohio City Burrito will surely attract the workers, shoppers and other wanderers in the Market district of Cleveland's West Side. The area has benefited from renewed interest in the historically and culturally rich lode. Granted, the Market's been a hub for working folks on the near West Side for generations.

Lean times and urban blight, however, seemed to dim the Market's luminous presence in the '70s and '80s. The '90s brought an upswing of prosperity to this Ohio City crossroads, as bars, restaurants and residences grew and began to pop up near the intersection of Lorain and West 25th Street. The current resurgence in local food culture and urban rehabbing keeps bringing people in from the city, from the 'burbs and even from out of town. That's the crowd Ohio City Burrito could easily impact with their quick and convenient menu.

Tucked right next to the Old Angle Tavern and a few doors down from an all-purpose, bodega-type storefront (you know, rolling papers, malt liquor, lottery tickets), Ohio City Burrito's kitchily colorful skeletons and farm animals add to that West 25th je ne sais quoi.

Nachos ($5.25 with cheese, beans, guac, the works) isn't all OCB offers. There's the whoppingly big Brother's Burrito ($6.15) or the much smaller Talia's Taco ($2.25). Main menu items can be made with beans, fajita veggies or meat (shredded beef, chicken, or pork), and seasoned with salsa of varying hotness. Sides include rice and beans (2.25) or simple chips and guacamole ($2.45).

The Talia's Taco, along with a side of chips and guacamole, does the trick for a short and tasty lunch. It's just generous enough without the gutbuster effect of OCB's burritos, and spiced gently enough for those who can't handle the unrestrained power of Mexican chiles at full-tilt. The guacamole was creamy without being needlessly runny.

Though only in its infant stages, Ohio City Burrito could become a pleasant and useful little addition to the world of West 25th, with its urban hipsters, worker drones and hoodrats. Because no matter who you are or where you're from, everyone likes yummy food wrapped in a tortilla.
