Food
Whether you want breakfast, brunch, lunch or just a light pastry, Lucky’s is the place to go. The café’s menu is designed to showcase locally grown products—both those grown in the garden next door and those purchased from area farmers. Freshness is important to Haviland, so she buys what’s in season—even if it means ending up with a kitchen filled with such vegetables as kale and kohlrabi. “I love the challenge of coming up with recipes using different products,” Haviland said. “I try to feature new products on the brunch menu every week.” Haviland’s menu does have several staples, such as cheddar biscuits and gravy, the “shipwreck” (a conglomeration of hash browns, eggs, cheese and veggies) and breakfast burritos. “I’ve tried taking these items off the menu before, and customers almost revolted,” Haviland said with a laugh. Word to the wise: don’t miss the vanilla bean griddle cakes, which come piled high with fruit and fresh whipped cream. Almost everything is homemade at Lucky’s, from the bread to the hot sauce, and portions are huge, so there’s no way you’ll leave with an empty stomach.
