West Side Market
By Michelle Venorsky, Special to Metromix
For the past 98 years, the West Side Market has been a staple in Cleveland’s history. It’s one of the only markets that sticks to its roots and thrives in tradition offering locals and visitors the chance to purchase fresh produce, meats, seafood and other food-related products in one place from 180 merchants.
To help maneuver the aisles of goodness and get the most out of a trip to the market, there are a few things to keep in mind; the market is popular—very popular. When celebrities like Rachael Ray and Anthony Bourdain bring their respective shows to town, it’s no surprise the market is atop their visits.
When visiting, bring your reusable grocery bags and your patience. If crowds aren’t your thing, avoid Saturdays and try to visit Monday, Wednesday or Friday instead. If you do go on Saturday and are in need of a deal, go closer to closing when many of the vendors, specifically produce, will bargain.
Finally, bring cash. While many vendors now take debit and credit, cash is preferred and makes the experience that much smoother—and quicker (not just for you, but those waiting).

If your going to go the WSM, you have to go the Market Cafe! By far the best weekend breakfast out there, plus its one of the best values in Cleve...
