Atmosphere
Stuck on the dingy corner of Bridge Avenue and West 44th Street, Dari Delite isn’t going to win any beauty pageants. The place is a nauseating concrete box painted brown, beige and orange, from which a shoddy lean-to overhang covers ordering windows basked in the sickening glow of flickering fluorescent lights. The front windows are plastered in tacky pictures of menu items, most of which are faded by one too many summer suns.
However, this visually offensive exterior only adds to the charm. Dari Delite is the puppy that’s so ugly it’s cute. It’s the pair of jeans that are torn and faded because you wear them every other day. Yeah, you can certainly find much nicer alternatives, but there’s something about that rag-tag appearance that makes it so charming and so comfortable.
