Jon Peter Lewis, 'Break the Silence'

When guest judge Quentin Tarantino calls your performance “geeky,” it’s not a good sign—and sure enough, Lewis’ geek-tastic rendition of Elvis Presley’s “Jailhouse Rock” cut short his quest to become the first credible “Idol” rock singer (fans would have to wait for season four’s Bo Bice and Constantine Maroulis, who were arguably just as geeky but at least had better hair). Since his “Jailhouse” exit, JPL has released a pair of critically praised but commercially ignored solo albums, including this 2008 set, which no less an authority than People magazine hailed as “one of the best pop/rock CDs of the year.” Suck on that, Tarantino!
