Q&A: The Suede Brothers

The Suede Brothers are no strangers to music. With two albums under their belt, these guys have no plans to slow down anytime soon. Playing their signature Rust Belt rock, these guys leave hearts melting and fans begging for more.

Who would you say are your musical influences?

White Stripes, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Fu Manchu

How did you come up with the name of the band?

A guy who works at the Beachland named us actually. We walked in and he saw us with these velvet jackets on and he goes, "Hey, it's the Suede brothers." People always ask us if we are brothers and we used to just tell people yes. We got lucky because our music is kind of hard and edgy and suede is kind of soft. It's kind of like a contrast.

What songs will you be performing?

"Ill New You," "Jolly Rodger" and "Please Her."

Why did you choose these songs?

We have two new songs and one old song. We tend to start with the same couple of songs. Ill New You is the first song off of our new album. We wrote it six or eight months ago and it's our oldest of the new songs. We have been playing it for a long time. We know what we are doing with it. Jolly Rodger, we have been playing since before we had the first album out. We have never played a show and not played it. It is a completely different song from when we first started out. The third one is just a new staple for us.

What is your favorite thing about performing?

When you nail a performance and you don't mess up anything—it's the best feeling. It's like ecstasy. When you finish a show, it’s a great feeling.

For someone who doesn't know your music, can you describe it?

Heavy. Blues based. Rust Belt rock because we live in the Rust Belt.

Rust Belt rock ... can you describe that for me?

Blues-based rock that is adjusted for our area. No BS. You just get down and do it. We try to leave pretense out of it.

You have two albums out. Are there any plans for a third record?

We are doing demos already, just seeing how the songs will work out when we record them again. There will definitely be a third album. We have a lot of new stuff.

Where was your first performance in Cleveland?

It was actually in the Beachland opening for Blue Cheer.

Do you have a favorite spot to perform?

We love the Beachland, but the Double Door in Chicago is great. Also the Revive Room in Columbus.

Do you have a favorite spot to hang out during your downtime?

Anywhere in Painesville—Chipotle for those of us who are underage. They do serve beer. I just can't buy it.
