Q&A: Coffinberry

Known as one of the most popular rock bands in the area, Coffinberry always leaves fans wanting more.

How did you all get involved with music?
We all have different backgrounds and started into music at different ages.

What do you like about the Cleveland music scene?
Everyone is really nice. There is lots of stuff to do and hear. Lots of great clubs. Great bands. Guys with raccoon hats.

How did you come up with the name, Coffinberry?
It's the name of an old settler. He became a judge and I think slaughtered a bunch of Indians. It used to be a school and a park. It's nothing now. It's just us.

Who are your musical influences?
AC/DC, all sorts of stuff. '60s music, do you guys remember those? Buck Owen. David Bowie. Led Zeppelin. Johnny Cash. The Doors. Bob Dylan.

Your new self-titled album "Coffinberry" contains more acoustic guitars and piano. Why did you add these in?
We had to because the electricity got cut off. We had to do it this way or we don't. It just seemed a natural way to record the songs. Most of them were written that way.

What three songs will you be performing?
We don't really know. "Loraina," which is the first song on the record. "Monster," which is also on there, and then two we haven't recorded.

Why did you choose those songs?
No reason whatsoever. Just songs we like to play and we are able to do well.

What is your favorite thing about performing?
The girls or the money. The money, probably the money. I don't know. It's just fun. We are not gonna stop. We enjoy it and we don't know anyone else. We know each other. We don't have any other friends.

Where was your first performance in Cleveland?

Speakin' Tongues in 2001.

Where is your favorite place to perform in Cleveland?
The Beachland Tavern

Where is your favorite hang out in Cleveland?
Our house, we don't really get out much.
