The best before "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"
By S. James Snyder, Special to Metromix
Most heroines don’t have tattoos; maybe that’s what makes "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," a.k.a. Lisbeth Salander, intriguing from the start. The central character of Stieg Larsson’s books, as well as three Swedish films, Lisbeth is making her English debut for American audiences, played by rising star Rooney Mara (“The Social Network”).
She’s a computer hacker who teams up with a journalist to search for a woman who’s been missing for decades. Tough, brilliant and self-sufficient, Lisbeth is unlike any other female lead in movie history; and the black ink on her body just goes to prove that you can’t judge this book by its cover.
Of course Hollywood has a history of memorable tats. Take a look back at some of cinema's most intricate—and unforgettable—tattoos.
