The game-changing pilot season: 2004-05
On Monday, Fox bids farewell to medical mystery series House after eight seasons, about a week after ABC retired Desperate Housewives. Both series were products of the 2004-05 pilot season. Most seasons, networks are lucky to reap one or two hits from the pilot crop but in 2004, they hit the jackpot. That year launched a multitude of game-changing series that changed how we watch TV and in the case of ABC, reinvented a network. USA TODAY's David Oliver looks back at that influential season.
