Wil Wheaton
Then: A child actor with minor credits—including an episode of “Highway to Heaven” and a voice in animated cult classic “The Secret of NIMH”—Wheaton was cast as Gordie, the central hero of “Stand By Me.”
Now: After “Stand By Me,” Wheaton went on to play teen genius Wesley Crusher on “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” which was only the beginning of his rise as a geek icon. Wheaton was at the forefront of online writing and social media and still maintains a popular blog and one of the most active celebrity accounts on Twitter. He’s still acting, mostly in TV guest roles (“Eureka,” “The Big Bang Theory”) and voiceovers (“Ben 10,” “Batman: The Brave and the Bold”).
