"Cowboys & Aliens" is only the latest weird, wild Western
By Brett Buckalew, Special to Metromix
The Western genre reassures through familiarity. Fans can count on certain defining elements: a stoic, macho hero of few words in a ten-gallon hat; thrilling horseback chases; a tense, pistol-drawing showdown; gorgeous vistas of rocky mountains and clear blue sky; alien ships invading a small town and zapping the populace with advanced weapons technology.
Wait, what?!?
