Cleve-Lens: Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest
How many hot dogs and buns can you eat in 10 minutes? How about 38?
That was the number chomped down at Tower City on Thursday by 25-year-old Pat Bertoletti, the #2 competitive eater in the world.
He devoured the competition, qualifying for a spot in the Nathan's Famous hot dog eating championship at Coney Island on July 4.
It truly was a disgusting sight as all of the eaters dunked their dogs and buns into large cups of water and fruit punch to help the food slide down easier. But it made it so much harder for spectators to watch as the liquids splattered all over the table and dripped down their arms.
The gooey, sloppy shrapnel from the glutonny war even flew into the "splash zone" below where members of the media (including me) were nervously standing.
The world record is currently held by Joey Chestnut who consumed 68 hot dogs and buns in 12 minutes back in 2009 at Coney Island.
