Brown's Grill and Bowling Lanes

According to legend, the second-oldest lanes in the U.S. are tucked inside this tiny and tough bar located on Denison and West 25th.  Nothing other than the word "lanes" in the name indicates that actual bowling might take place in this hardscrabble neighborhood, but sure enough, Brown's boasts a few waxed wooden ones hidden away from the view of many outsiders. Why? The slow process of rehabilitating the lanes, which date back to 1912, doesn't behoove trampling tourists. Call ahead though, and Brown's will set aside a spot for you.
