Tower 230 Bar and Grille, situated on the street level of Tower City, is a fairly new addition to the assortment of dining venues in downtown Cleveland’s bustling business, shopping, event and dining center. Located just a few short blocks from Quicken Loans Arena, the Cleveland Browns Stadium and Progressive Field, the casual venue caters to sports lovers and the business lunch crowd alike.
Atmosphere: Accessible from the outside or inside (third level) of Tower City, the restaurant offers a more relaxing choice for lunch than the busy food court downstairs. The same goes for game days. You’ll find that this venue is a lot less packed than other popular pre-game spots. Spacious with an open kitchen and a large amount of seating (especially in the dining area), the interior is decked out in true sports bar fashion with 15 HD plasma televisions throughout the bar and dining area.
Food: The menu features an average assortment of American cuisine including an interesting variety of appetizers (everything from nachos to crab cakes), soups, salads, wraps, pizzas and some oddly placed entrées. Advertised and priced as restaurant quality fare, the menu items, specifically the sandwiches and subs, take on a more fast food quality. For the price, you might be more satisfied opting for Houlihan's or Subway depending on your budget.
Drinks: The bar features a full selection of beer, wine and liquor and offers a great happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. daily. Take advantage of the half-priced martinis and 23-ounce drafts for $3.25. While the venue is advertised as a bar and grille, the dining area takes up the majority of the space, giving off a restaurant vibe and creating a somewhat small and sectioned off bar area that could fill up fast.
Service: Tower 230's service is fast, friendly and laid back.
Insider Tip: If you're really in a rush, try Tower Deli (located on the second level) to grab a quick breakfast or lunch on the go. It’s open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Bottom Line: Tower 230’s happy hour and proximity to sporting events is nice, but the overpriced menu and average atmosphere makes nearby venues look even more appealing.
