The bar is loud, the game is in overtime and you’ve got a prime seat right in front of the big screen, then it happens: your cell phone rings and you’ve got to take this call. There’s no way you’ll be able to hear over the noise inside, but you can’t miss the end of this game. What do you do? Well, if you’re at The Blind Pig, just step outside where they’ve got a flatscreen TV in the window facing the patio for situations just like this. It’s the best of both worlds.
Booze: It’s nothing fancy at the Blind Pig, and that’s what we liked about it. When you order your drink (and with a fully-stocked bar, trust us, they’ll have your drink), you get exactly what you expected. For an even better value, hit up the bar during happy hour (4-9 p.m. Monday through Friday) and enjoy a 23-ounce beer for $2.50.
Food: The Blind Pig’s eclectic American cuisine will suit your taste buds and your wallet (a rare combination these days). If you’re looking for a snack while meeting friends for drinks after a long day at the office, you can’t go wrong with the Blind Pig’s signature wings ($8 for a dozen) in your choice of 10 different sauces. But the veggie wrap was more my style, filled with black beans, corn, tomato, lettuce, mushrooms and cheese ($7).
After a tough loss or a serious case of the “Mondays” (if that means nothing to you, watch "Office Space" immediately), there’s nothing like the comfort of ooey, gooey mac and cheese topped with crispy bacon ($8). And what kind of respectable bar wouldn’t have burgers? The Pig won’t let you down there; they’ve got plenty to choose from.
Atmosphere: Located in the heart of downtown Cleveland’s hip Warehouse District, there’s always a party going on. There’s plenty of parking (not for free, of course) and always plenty of fun people. It’s mostly standing-room only, but that’s all the better for mingling, right? We thought so.
Insider tips: There are always special events going on at the Pig. From game-day specials to live music, catch up on what’s going down with the calendar featured on the bar’s Web site.
Bottom line: This pig may be blind, but as far as we can see, this funky little bar hasn’t missed a thing. It’s hip without trying too hard to be trendy, and that’s more than we can say for most people we know.
